How do you pray against idolatry?

Well said, Paula. I posted a note on the other forum about attending the Loy Kratong lantern festival last night. For 2 hours, our small group watched as hundreds of Thai people bowed over and over to a golden statue. This may seem foolish to us, but I also realize how easily we can become ensnared in our own forms of idolatry - our busy-ness, our materialism, our relationships, our ambitions, etc. Instead of judging what I saw last night, I am praying that God will give me a deeper love for the Thai people and that He will reveal to me my own areas of idolatry in a way that will allow me to minister and share more effectively in this culture.

Anything I put before God's glory is an idol! As I travel the world it is easy to see idols made by man, but it is more challenging to ask God to show me the idols in my sphere. "Lord, take the scales from my eyes and help me to see truth in my innermost being. What challenges my love for you today? What must I put on the altar of sacrifice to be set free to serve you with abandon? "

Thank you, Father, for willingly giving us discernment of the Spirit to see the world as you see it. "Not by might, but by Your Spirit! I heard today of five new sisters among a people group and in a nation ripped by war. God is doing unseen things! I want to see them with Spirit eyes!

"Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord: they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God." Psalm 86:8-10

I have been living in Asia for the past 10 years - first in the Philippines, then South Korea, now Thailand. Idolatry is present in many forms in Asia and around the world. This is just one passage of Scripture that encourages me that a day is coming when the idols from every nation will be cast aside. In the meantime, what are some ways that you have prayed against idolatry in your areas? How have you seen God work? How have you witnessed the nations bringing glory to His name?
